Free State Health Department said it is prioritising positions and where doctors are needed, they are currently under the process of being appointed.
Health MEC Benny Malakoane said when doctors resign due to reasons known to them, the move wouldn’t have any effect on the accreditation of the hospital. Malakoane was referring to the matter where twenty-three doctors have resigned from Universitas Hospital in Bloemfontein. He was speaking at the Health Indaba that was held in President Hotel, Bloemfontein on Tuesday.
“Doctors, who see, treat and diagnose patients they do not necessarily contribute to the accreditation of a hospital as a training facility that is done by a different breed of academics and other consultants that are part of the teaching platform. I don’t think this will have any form of effect or impact on the accreditation of the university as such,” said Malakoane.
Magashule emphasised at the Indaba that those in leadership levels need to know that their role is to positively change their employees. He stressed that health department needed to assess the high rate of crucial vacancies and prioritise to solve the problem.
He said choosing the right Human Resource employees could reduce the vacancy problem the department is facing.
