The Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport has issued a statement warning Free State motorists about increasing flooding in various parts of the province due to heavy rains.
The following roads have become an immediate risk and motorists are urged to drive cautiously:
- The N1 outside Kroonstad is flooded
- R34 between Welkom and Kroonstad road is heavily flooded
The statement urged motorists to use the following roads as alternative routes:
- From Bloemfontein use R30 to Allanridge, Bothaville, then R721 to Vredefort, Parys then join N1.
“You are hereby requested to be very patient and abide by the rules of the road at all times. Your corporation in this regard will be highly appreciated,” concluded the statement.
The South African Weather Services further urged Mangaung residents that the heavy showers are level 6 for thunderstorms and will be valid until 8 April at 23:00.
