Mangaung Metro has immediately undertaken vigorous water tests after an outcry of possible water contamination since last week.
The municipality has since communicated with its laboratory to conduct tests on drinking water and the results did not show any contamination. However, complaints of brown water, which could be caused by either fixing or replacement of a burst pipe, are still being received.
The municipality can confirm though, that both the water and sewer network have been under severe pressure recently, and this is a matter that is getting the attention of the city.
The Engineering Services department has since taken an approach that in a case of a burst pipe the entire pipe will be replaced, with the view of bringing a lasting solution to the underground pipe network.
The municipality has since issued a notice to residents in those areas where water contamination is suspected to boil water before drinking, whilst as the city, it is paying attention to this problem.
The municipality will continue updating residents and businesses on the status of drinking water in the city.
