Duane Petrus – A woman accused of brutally stabbing and killing her 3-year-old relative has made her first appearance in the Odendaalsrus magistrate’s court this morning.

Free State police spokesperson, Molebogeng Lechesa, says 23-year-old Mavis Mahamo, who was last seen with the murdered girl last Friday, was arrested on Monday night after going into hiding.

The arrest came after a tip-off about her whereabouts and an okapi knife, which was allegedly used to commit the murder, was found in her possession.

Lechesa, says the body of Karabo Nale was discovered by a shepherd in an open field on Sunday with 99 stab wounds.

Mahamo’s next court appearance is scheduled for 22 July, for a possible bail application.
