Reizis Square was the dream of local couple Salomé and Stylianos Reizis who took an abandoned building on the corner of Raymond Mhlaba and Waverly Roads and turned it into a Bloemfontein gem. The square is not only a thriving and alternative centre by day but a charming family friendly market by night.
Salomé’s dream was to create a space where people can gather to shop, be entertained and enjoy a good old fashioned chat over a delicious meal. That is exactly what she has achieved.
The monthly Reizis Square Nite Market is extremely popular with Bloemfontein residents and visitors. “I absolutely love to build, re-build and fix old spaces, and decorate them,” said Salomé. This is a place to enjoy live entertainment, craft beer and sweet treats with family and friends.
Salome turned a worn down building into a lifestyle centre with a mix of modern and old fashioned charm. The doors of the old garages are still used on the renovated premises to add a rustic touch.
Presently, the development of a Pick n Pay is taking place in the area but will not be any run-of-the-mill grocery shop. Pick n Pay at Reizis Square will be one of a kind so that it stays true to the mixed use of development that fuses downtown urbanism with a subtle sophistication of the centre.
