Register deceased documents to limit ID theft

About 25% of identity theft is of deceased identities and over the last couple of years there has been a spike in deceased identity theft.

General Manager at Independent Identity Verification Dawid Jacobs says deceased identities get recycled and utilised for purchases and urges people to register their deceased documents in order to prevent fraudulent activity.

While many ID theft cases unreported, Jacobs said that the problem in the country is ID theft costs the short term insurance industry approximately R4 billion per annum. He says people can register the deceased loved ones on their website which is www.2iv.co.za
