R2 million each for Bfn Celtic and Free State Stars

The Free State’s two top soccer clubs – Bloemfontein Celtic and Free State Stars – received a major financial boost from the provincial Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation. As part of the agreement the two teams will each receive R2 million.
This follows Premier Ace Magashule’s announcement that the government will assist the teams who are constantly putting the province on the map as far as sports tourism is concerned.
Spokesperson for the department, Tankiso Zola, says the department’s programme for investing in sports started last year when the Cheetahs Rugby Club also received a cash injection.
He says to ensure that the clubs are using the funds as allocated a service level agreement was signed between each club and the provincial government.
Zola says the funds will go towards technical and coaching support. He says the money will also come in handy because of the two teams’ battle to remain in the PSL. – Cathy Dlodlo
