Thuli Madonsela’s successor, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, says the Office of the Public Protector prioritizes the public and roots out corruption in public entities.

Speaking at the first stakeholder forum visit to the Free State Legislature, Mkhwebane said investigations into the controversial Vrede Dairy Farm Project is almost complete and the public can expect the outcome by the end of April. It is alleged that millions were spent without the department knowing how the money was spent.

“With regard to the Vrede Dairy Farm Project, I have indicated that we are in the final stages. We have finalized the investigations and we will soon be finalizing the report. I am also challenged to go and see the project prior to finalizing the report, but I must say the investigation is complete.

It is alleged that the Free State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development was required to pay R114 million per year over a period of three years without knowing how the money was spent.
