Public Protector won’t investigate cases of land claims

The Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane says her office cannot investigate cases of land reform, restitution and/ or expropriation of land without compensation if they happened prior 1995.

Mkhwebane says the office of the Public Protector only started operating in 1995, and this means her office does not have the jurisdiction to deal with issues which happened prior that year.

She says the constitution should be amended to deal with such cases and enable the establishment of institutions that will deal with the imbalances of the past.

This came in light during a stakeholder forum in Free State Legislature, yesterday when an ANC councillor, Mpho Chakane requested the public protector to investigate allegations that DA  MPL, Roy Jankielson has four farms.
