Public Protector report on Operation Hlasela to be released soon

A Public Protector report into Free State Premier Ace Magshule’s controversial multimillion-rand programme, Operation Hlasela, is expected to be released soon.

This is according to Thuli Madonsela’s acting spokesperson, Oupa Segalwe.

Opposition parties in the Free State asked Madonsela’s office to probe the programme in 2011. At the time, Madonsela said the investigation would look into the nature of Operation Hlasela, whether public funds were used and if tender procedures were followed.

Operation Hlasela is being used by the Free State government as a service delivery vehicle and indications were that it had a voluntary fund into which donors could donate money.

Segalwe says the investigating part of the probe has now been completed.
