The Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane says her office has not received any complaints with regard to the Free State Department of Human Settlement housing scandal, which implicates the former Chief Operating Officer of the public broadcaster-SABC, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, and the Sports Minister, Fikile Mbalula’s wife.
Mkhwebane says her office is has not received any complaints on the matter, however her office may launch investigations into the matter once complaints have been lodged
“We never received any complaints, so we can’t just conduct our own investigation and initiative when we have matters pending, which we have to investigate, unless we receive a complaint”.
it is alleged that Motsoeneng and Mbalula’s wife were trustees who benefited from millions of Rands which were meant for houses that were never built.
A civil rights organisation, AfriForum has since laid criminal charges against the Department, suppliers and contractors, allegedly involved in this housing scandal.
The organisations’ Pieter Myburg, told Courant that this came in light of more than R400 million, which was earmarked for RDP houses was unlawfully paid out to building contractors.
Myburg said thus far according to court documents in their possession, it is indicated that not a single house has been built.
In response to Courant inquiries the the department said they will unfortunately not be able to respond to this matter as it is related to a matter currently in court and therefore they cannot comment on it.
