Police Minister, Bheki Cele, has called on community members to assist law enforcement agencies to deal with criminals.
He said that some of the community members make things difficult for police as they are working with criminals. He said that members of community and police have to form a good relationship so that perpetrators could be brought to book. OFM News’ Corn Koteli earlier reported that Cele is set to visit Welkom in the Free State today for the annual Safer Festive Season Inspection Tour. Provincial police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, stated earlier that the tour forms part of the SAPS’ efforts to see where their resources are mostly needed and also to ensure that police deal decisively with crime during the holiday season.
Meanwhile Cele called on police to prioritise the safety of residents, specifically, women and children. Cele said that police should no longer try to tell abusive partners to negotiate but rather be tough on criminal activities such as Gender Based Violence. He concluded that police should protect vulnerable people and put criminals behind bars.
