Psalm69 – a show that promises to inspire

Jane Mpholo - writer and producer

The producers of the theatrical show that premiered at Pacofs in 2017, Psalm69, are looking for seven Bloemfontein high schools to visit during their school tour that is to take place from 21-29 January 2019. This will be a great opportunity for schools as learners will benefit by not only getting to see the show, but also by attending a writer’s workshop and a dialogue session.

The writer and producer, Jane Mpholo, who was born and raised in Botshabelo, told Bloemfontein Courant that this show is based on the true story of her life. The show carries themes of rape, gender based violence, HIV and resilience.

“I was raped at the age of 14. I lost my parents to HIV at 17 and I lost my sister in a horrific suicide-homicide incident. I wanted to share my story to bring about awareness and inspiration,” she said.

The name of the show is a prayer for someone in misery. She has now created the modern version of that Bible verse.

She explained, “When we performed the show for an international audience at the Global Leadership Summit, it touched every soul from all the different countries and continents. I realised it was no longer my story but a universal story.”

They decided to have a schools tour because she wanted to share this with learners in hopes to inspire them and give them the tools that she only got in touch with way later in her life. – Sazly Hartzenberg
