The Proteas squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in India will be announced in Bloemfontein next month.
On Wednesday, the men’s national cricket team got their season underway in the first of three T20 Internationals against Australia at Kingsmead in Durban.
Following the three T20I’s, the Proteas will get to Bloemfontein where they will take on Australia in the first two One-Day Internationals at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein. It will be the second time this year that the Proteas will head to the City of Roses after they beat the reigning world campions, England, in two ODI’s in Bloemfontein earlier in the year.
Australia are a different prospect and five-time world champions, but, the last time they played in Bloemfontein, they were beaten by six wickets by South Africa in the 2nd ODI back in 2020.
Before the five-match ODI series starts in Bloemfontein, the white-ball coach, Rob Walter, will name his squad for the World Cup at Grey College on 5 September.
The 1st ODI at the Mangaung Oval will be played on Thursday 7 September, with the 2nd ODI to be played on Saturday 9 September. – MORGAN PIEK
