Property will be swapped for relocation of Bloem Zoo

REFILWE MEKOA

Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality is going to swap land with a private owner for the relocation of the Bloemfontein Zoo.
It was mentioned during a council meeting this morning in Bloemfontein that the centre of Kwaggafontein, belongs to a private owner.

The DA queried if the money transaction and exchange of ownership of the land is finalised.

City Manager Sibongile Mazibuko says they will not buy the piece of land but rather swap it. Mazibuko says the agreement issue between the owner and the municipality has been concluded.

“Last year the council resolved that we should actually exchange the property of the city to the private owner. The negotiations and agreement have been finalised,” says Mazibuko.

"The value of the property that is owned by the city is actually a little bit more than the property in Kwaggafontein. We are now in the process of registering the property, it is presently at the deeds office and as it is known, title deeds take time,” she says.
Mazibuko says the difference in value will be paid out to them by the private owner.
