All roads led to the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday night as celebrities made their way to the Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards. From Tbo Touch to Pearl Thusi and, of course, our girl, Bonang Matheba.
In a first for South African television, M-Net’s Mzansi Magic (161) has partnered with DStv to launch a brand new awards show, one in which South African television audiences will determine the winners in 10 categories. The DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards (DStvMVCA) was screened live on Mzansi Magic on Saturday 26 August 2017 and was destined to be a glittering celebration of local talent in acting, music, sport and more, all acknowledging the country’s top stars.
Nyakallo Leine, aka Ba2Cada, won the Best Radio Personality Award, while Kabelo Motsamai, aka Prince Kaybee, won the Song of the Year Award. Ba2Cada who hails from Botshabelo, is a radio presenter at Lesedi FM. He is also known for driving community upliftment programmes.
Prince Kaybee, the King of house music, as some would say, was born in the small Free State town, Senekal. He grew up in Welkom where he spent most of his life, still treasuring his childhood memories of this town. He now resides in Bloemfontein.
His popular song ”Charlotte” featuring Lady Zamar won the DStv Mzansi Viewers’ Choice Awards (DStvMVCA) for Song of the Year. On facebook Prince Kaybee wrote “Thank you so much South Africa for this. #SongOfTheYear #Charloooooooooote”
Premier Ace Magashule congratulated Ba2Cada and Prince Kaybee on winning their awards in a tight competition where more than one million viewers voted, saying that the province is proud of the two Free State nominees having scooped up crucial awards. – Pierce van Heerden
