Soccer lovers from around the Mangaung Metro and the province came together recently for the annual Ba2cada Soccer Tournament, which was held at the Flamingo soccer field in H-Section in Botshabelo.
The tournament is an opportunity for the grassroots players to showcase their talents and to be spotted by soccer development teams and professional soccer teams such as Bloemfontein Celtics and Free State Stars.
The atmosphere at the tournament, which has grown exponentially over the years, was electrifying from the beginning until the end. The final was played between the defending champion, Porto FC from Botshabelo, and Tikwane from Hoopstad. Porto FC emerged victorious with a score of 4-0.
Some of the top players who were awarded included Alfred Mosoeu who won Player of the Tournament, Hlaloha Rambo who won Goalkeeper of the Tournament, and Bongani Joseph Chikila who walked away with the Top Goal Scorer Award.
Lebohang Mokoena, Porto FC coach, told Bloemfontein Courant that this team first won the tournament when it was founded in June 2016.
“The next year we lost to an excellent team, Botshabelo Derby Mathaithai FC. In 2018 we returned guns blazing, reclaiming the cup from them, and in 2018 we repeated the win. We are extremely proud because we have won this annual soccer tournament three times. We are trying to market our players to the bigger teams in the country,”
Mokoena added that he is so proud because they managed to bring something different to the tournament.
“I would like to thank Nyakallo Leine of Ba2cada for the opportunity our players get to showcase their talents. We are very grateful. – Lebakeng Nkabi
