Bloemfontein police spokesperson Chaka Marope says they will tighten their grip for this year’s Macufe festival.
He says they are ready to ensure residents and visitors enjoy a safe and healthy environment during the ten day celebrations. Marope says they will embark on an intensive law enforcement operation. He says foot and vehicle patrols will be conducted in high density areas such as business areas, taxi ranks and places where alcohol is consumed.
Marope says those with criminal intentions will face the consequences of their actions.
“We would like to inform those with criminal intentions to disrupt the lovely activities that we will deal with them lawfully, especially those people who will be driving under the influence of alcohol and those who will be driving recklessly on our roads. We appeal to the public to work with the police,” he says.
Marope says there will be roadblocks at identified hotspot areas to promote road safety, preventing hi-jacking and those driving under the influence of liquor.
The Mangaung Cultural Festival was launched this morning at Naval Hill in Bloemfontein. The activities began with a golf tournament and will finish on high note with a soccer match between Celtics and Chiefs on 13 October for the Macufe Cup at the Free State Stadium.
