The police in Bloemfontein have launched a manhunt for a robbery and murder suspect following the discovery of the body of an 18-year-old male student who was shot and killed in Universitas on Saturday night.

Police spokesperson, Peter Kareli, says the victim, a student from the University of the Free State, was found lying on the side of the street. He says investigation continues.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the person was short once in his chest. Unfortunately the victim died on the side of the street.”

Karedi says the suspect fled with the student’s laptop and cell phone. He says the student has been identified, but his name cannot be released until such time as his family has been informed.

Meanwhile University spokesperson, Lacea Loader, says they are aware of the incident, which did not take place on campus.

She says they are working closely with police to ensure the safety of students.
