Police search for abandoned baby’s family

SABRINA DEAN – Mangaung police are still hunting for the family of a 10-month-old baby boy who was found abandoned near a popular car wash in Chris Hani Square last week.
Police spokesperson Zweli Mohobeleli says the child is doing well and has been placed into the care of social workers. He says a resident in the area discovered the little boy, who was found wrapped in blankets in an open area but was fortunately in good health.
“We’d like to appeal to the community, especially surrounding communities from Phase 3, 6 and 9, to assist the police in identifying the parents and moreover to hold the parents accountable,” he says.
Mohobeleli says police are investigating a case of abandonment.
Anyone with information can contact Captain Blom of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit on 072-403-0770 or contact the Mangaung Police Station directly.
