Police make breakthrough in Bergman murder case

The police have arrested two suspects after a search was launched for the murder of 52-year-old Andries Mgoqi outside a tavern in Bergman, Bloemfontein.

According to police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli, a Mangaung Trio Task Team received information in the early hours of 23 February 2024 that led them to a house in Wepener where two suspects aged 34 and 33 were arrested. This arrest came after Mgoqi’s brutal murder on 16 February 2024.

“Further details cannot be made public at this stage as the investigation is at a sensitive stage,” said Kareli.

“The deceased was standing and talking with a friend outside the tavern in Bergman when a man walked passed them, turned around, and pulled out a firearm. He shot Mgoqi multiple times. The suspect allegedly fled the scene in a white Mercedez Benz after the incident,” Kareli added.

Bloemspruit police opened a case of murder for investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact Warrant Officer Jacques Wilson at 082-466-7255 of the Mangaung Trio Task Team, call Crime Stop on 08600-10111, or submit a tip-off on the My SAPS App.
