Police investigates Kimberley Hospital workers’ strike

Approximately 500 protesters gathered outside the Kimberley Hospital complex this morning between 7am and 10am. This is according to Police spokesperson, Sergio Kock.

He says protesters were burning tyres outside the hospital complex and violence erupted. Kock says a group of protesters set sheets and linen alight inside the theatre on the sixth floor of the hospital.

He confirms that nine people were arrested for public violence and the contravention of a court order. Kock says one male was also charged with assaulting a police officer.

“At this stage, the situation is back to normal, however, the police are closely monitoring the situation. No other injuries were reported to the police and investigations continue” he said.
