Police investigate after alleged farm assault

Police are investigating a case of house robbery after man and his elderly mother were allegedly assaulted outside Bloemfontein, on Friday. Three suspects fled the scene of the incident with two cell phones and a firearm during the evening.

According to Police spokesperson Thandi Mbambo, Willem Jacobus du Toit and his 82 year old mother were at home at Lovedale farm near Bloemfontein when their electricity tripped at around 19:00. “Du Toit went outside with the intention of lifting up the plugs when he was allegedly attacked by three unknown males,” she said.

“They took him inside the house and continued to assault him and his mother. Apparently none of the suspects were armed and they tied both Mr Du Toit and his mother then demanded the keys to their safe. They fled the scene on foot with a 3.2 Revolver and two cell phones,” explained Mbambo.

Both victims were referred to a local hospital for treatment. No suspects have been arrested yet and a case of house robbery has been registered for further investigation.

“Anyone with information on the whereabouts of suspects should please call Detective Warrant Officer Koto at 060 6993 451 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111, alternatively send info via MySAPS App,” Mbambo requested.
