Police crack down on drug dealers in Odendaalsrus

Members of the SAPS’ Anti-Gang Unit followed up on information about drugs in Odendaalsrus and two suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs.

According to police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng, the information was operationalised on 12 March 2024 at around 14:00, which led the team to a parking area of a grocery store in the Odendaalsrus CBD where a male was found selling drugs.

“He was approached and six packets of Nyaope drugs and five Crystal meth sachets, as well as cash (R255) were found in his possession. A 29-year-old man was arrested for dealing in drugs,” said Thakeng.

He added that members proceeded to flats and saw a suspicious person who ran away when he noticed police officers.

“He was chased and when caught, he was taken to a rented flat. While members were busy searching the flat, a ball of Nyaope drugs was found hidden inside electric wires. One Nyaope sachet, which weighs 10 grams, with cash that amounts to R360 were also found. A 34-year-old suspect was also arrested for dealing in drugs,” Thakeng further said.

Both suspected drug dealers will appear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court soon.
