Last week, with just over a week before the start of the 2019/20 Premier Soccer League season, Bloemfontein Celtic unveiled no less than 10 new signings.

The event, which saw the club launch its new home and away strips was also used to name the captain for the season.

Celtic opted to appoint Wandisile Letlabika, Ndumiso Mabena, and Lucky Baloyi and the three co-captains for the season, which will also see them playing in the MTN8.

The most notable signing is that of the Bafana Bafana and now former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Jackson Mabokgwane. The current Bafana shot-stopper, Mondli Mpoto, was also unveiled. He, with the national team, played in Sunday’s CHAN Qualifier defeat against Lesotho in Maseru, and will play in Saturday’s return leg against the team from the Mountain Kingdom in Johannesburg.

Another notable unveiling is that of the Lesotho international striker, Motebang Sera, who scored 18 league goals last season for his former club, Matlama FC.

The name of the former SA U23 midfielder, Andile Fikizolo, was also met with great enthusiasm. The former Free State Stars and Congolese international, Harris Tchilimbou, was the first player signed by Celtic during the off-season.

The other new players at Phunya Sele Sele are the midfielder Siphelele Luthuli (Ubuntu Cape Town FC), the midfielder Tumiso Mogakwe (Chippa United), winger Sello Matjila (Polokwane City), midfielder Tumelo Njoti (Celtic development player) and the left-back Aviwe Nyamende (Witbank Spurs).

Celtic will open their 2019/20 PSL campaign on Saturday against Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto. Celtic’s first home game of the season will be on Sunday, 11 August, when they host Steve Komphela’s Golden Arrows at the Toyota Stadium. – MORGAN PIEK
