GALOOME SHOPANE Petrol attendants and components manufacturers are out in numbers in some parts of central South Africa picketing at their work stations ahead of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa national strike on Thursday.
Numsa’s regional secretary Andile Zitho says they are “asking for a double digit increase while the employer is offering 7%.”
Zitho says they want workers to get an increase that matches the high cost of living.
He says they are not willing to back down on their demands and the strike will be indefinite as long as the employer does not give them a good offer.
