The Bloemfontein Zoo has been in the spotlight since the announcement of its reopening. Bloemfontein Courant’s Abigail Visagie reached out to residents to find out how they feel about the reopening and this is what they had to say:
Nicolene van Niekerk feels that the reopening of the zoo is amazing news and urges the municipality to please take good care of the animals. “At least there will be something for our children to enjoy,” Van Niekerk added. PHOTO: SUPPLIED
Charles Human fears that the zoo might be closed down again. “The reopening of the zoo is a great initiative, my fear is if the zoo is not managed properly, then it will be closed again. I do hope they have a fiveyear contingency plan for the zoo,” Human mentioned. PHOTO: SUPPLIED
Laurika du Preez is extremely excited to take her toddler to the zoo but shares the same sentiment as Human. “I’m really excited, I just hope that it will be better managed and maintained.” PHOTO: SUPPLIED
Neo Phothane says although the opening of the zoo is long overdue, she and her children are really looking forward to going. “It will definitely benefit the community members and Bloemfontein as a whole.” PHOTO: SUPPLIED
Thami Binda is extremely excited about the re-opening of the zoo. “I used to take my daughter there, and my son has never been to it, so this will be a great platform for him to learn about the zoo and its animals,” Binda said. PHOTO: SUPPLIED
At the time of print, the Mangaung Metro Municipality has not responded about the zoo’s opening and what the official entry fees will be.
