The Park Road Stock Theft Unit, in collaboration with the Bloemfontein Flying Squad, apprehended four individuals for stock theft near Dewetsdorp. On Wednesday, 23 August 2023, around 03:00, the Bloemfontein Flying Squad received information and was subsequently alerted to be on the lookout for a white Toyota Quantum taxi, which was believed to be transporting stolen livestock.
Responding to the information provided by the Park Road Stock Theft Unit, the team swiftly proceeded to the R702 between Dewetsdorp and Bloemfontein. Upon locating the vehicle in question, a high-speed pursuit ensued. The determined members of the Flying Squad successfully intercepted and brought the vehicle to a halt. Upon conducting a thorough search of the minibus, they discovered 22 Merino sheep loaded inside the Quantum.
The arrested suspects, aged between 30 and 40, now face charges related to the possession and theft of suspected stolen livestock. The confiscated sheep, with an estimated value of R52 000, serve as evidence of their alleged criminal activities. The four individuals are scheduled to appear in the Dewetsdorp Magistrate’s Court to address the charges against them.
