A parent can appeal when their child is refused admission at a school.
The Free State Department Education’s spokesperson Howard Ndaba says a parent has a right to write a letter to the department or the MEC and appeal the decision taken by the school. Ndaba says when a school refuses admission to a pupil it have to send a refusal letter to the district director.
He says the director has the power to correct or set aside the decision made by the school. Ndaba says the main reason that a child can be fused admission at a school it is when the school is full.
“In the first place, the school has to provide reason in writing whenever the learner is refused admission. The school can also submit proof to the parents indicating that the school is full,” he says.
Ndaba says some other reasons could be that a parent didn’t submit all relevant information to the school.
