Online games might pose a danger to children

The school holiday has started and the South African Police Service (SAPS) wants to alert parents to be more aware of the dangers that online games can pose.

In a statement released by SAPS, parents are advised to teach their children that gaming friends are still strangers in the real world.

“Never let your child share any personal information with anyone,” said the statement. The statement further advised that although online games can be a great way for children and young people to stay in touch with friends, it still is important that they play safely.

According to SAPS, some games have age restrictions and may contain violence and inappropriate content.

“Enable security and privacy settings on all online games,” urged the police.
