Oliewenhuis showcases exhibitions for festive season

This festive season Oliewenhuis Art Museum has an array of exhibitions for holiday makers to come view and enjoy.

According to a statement by the museum, the exhibitions range from desolated recollections to anticipated festivities, curated from the museum’s Permanent Collection as well as the ArtbankSA’s collection by Yolanda de Kock. These will be on show in the Main Building until 20 February 2022.

The main concept of this exhibition is to take the focus away from the harsh and depressive realities the country had to face the last few months, but rather to acknowledge this reality by contrasting isolation with festive rituals and celebrations.

Artworks from the museum’s permanent collection were handpicked to unpack concepts about joyful moments, hinting about the possibility of upcoming holidays and leisure activities. The choice of artworks also dialogues the different ways individuals experience the festive season.

Other exhibitions to look forward to are:

  • Are you game? will be on show until 13 February 2022 in the Annex Gallery.
  • PESP Projects Revisited will be on show until 31 March 2022 in the Main Building.
  • Āvāhana – Invocation, a solo-exhibition by Amita Makan will also be on show until 23 January 2022.
  • Containment will be on show until 30 January 2022 on the 1st floor of the Main Building.

Admission to the Main Building, the Permanent Collection and all the exhibitions is free.
