Locals may have a taste of the annual Oktoberfest celebrations at The Staffordshire Pub (The Staffy). Bloemfontein’s Oktoberfest event on October 26 hope to celebrate this unique German festival.
“We chose to host Oktoberfest at The Staffy because of the unique atmosphere and the special connection the venue offers,” explained Alex Neto, one of the pub’s owners. “We believe that The Staffy offers the right ambiance, is convenient for guests, and has the reputation for hosting great events.”
The Staffy’s Oktoberfest will be incorporating all of the traditions observed by the festival in Munich, including the city’s iconic blue and white checked patterns and decorations. “We encourage staff and guests to wear traditional attire,” said Neto, “this will bring a lively, festive vibe to our Oktoberfest celebration.”

There will be live entertainment provided by local artists, before Leo Sonskyn and Lisie Basson, both former Die Kontrak winners, and headliners Droomsindroom, take to the stage.
Traditional German games will also be played. Hammerschlagen is the hammer striking game. “It’s fun and competitive, involving players trying to hammer a nail into a log with a wedge-end hammer,” explained Neto.
The stein-holding competition is a game that tests strength and endurance as participants hold a full beer stein (or draught) at arm’s length for as long as possible.
Tickets are available in phases, starting at R200 for early birds – tickets are available on The Staffy website.
“As the hosts of the Oktoberfest, we are looking forward to creating a vibrant, fun-filled atmosphere where guests can enjoy authentic German drinks and games,” concluded Neto.
