An official state funeral has been approved for Free State Parliamentarian and former Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Ouma Tsopo.

Spokesperson for the Free State Legislature, Life Mokone, says acting Premier Elzabe Rockman will lead the funeral arrangements that will be held at the Meloding Methodist Church on Saturday 7 January at 8.30 in the morning.

Mokone says the reason for a state funeral is that Tsopo has served the Free State provincial government in various capacities as MEC for various departments and in top posts in the Free State Legislature over the years.

Mokone said furthermore Tsopo was a Member of Parliament. “She needs to be shown the necessary respect for the last send-off.”

The Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Mamiki Qabathe, also expressed her condolences to Tsopo’s family and friends. “Puma Stoop”, as she was affectionately known, died in the early hours of Sunday, the 1st January 2017, after she was admitted to hospital on Christmas Eve 2016.
