The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Mikateko Mahlaule, has welcomed the October fuel price reduction, offering motorists much-needed relief for the fifth consecutive month.

As of today (2/10), the price of petrol will decrease by between R1.06 and R1.14 per litre, while diesel will drop by between R1.12 and R1.14 per litre.

The department attributed the October decrease to the strengthening of the South African rand, which appreciated to around R17 against the US dollar in September 2024, up from more than R18 in August.

“We welcome these price cuts with open arms and hope that they continue steadily for the foreseeable future,” said Mahlaule.
