NWU’s Vaal Triangle Campus closed following petrol bomb incident

The North West University’s (NWU) Vaal Triangle Campus will not reopen as planned today.

The University’s spokesperson, Louis Jacobs, says the decision follows an incident early this morning at about 04:00 when petrol bombs were thrown at the main gate of the campus. No injuries were reported.

“Security guards that were on duty at the time of the incident successfully put out the fire and no damage was caused. As a result of this and due to the safety and security of staff and students, the decision to reopen the campus today was cancelled and during the course of the day and after assessing the situation, a further decision will be made with regard to classes and normal academic activities at the Vaal Triangle Campus,” Jacobs added.

The NWU’s Mafikeng Campus will only re-open on October 10, while activities on the Potchefstroom Campus will continue as normal.
