Ntsiki Mazwai headed to Bloem for UFS event

If are a lover of the arts and celebrate the different mediums in which one can appreciate art, then you will enjoy the Womxn* in Arts Symposium at the university of the Free State on Thursday evening.

With renowned singer, poet and firebrand “Tweleb” Ntsiki Mazwai as the guest speaker, it promises to be an evening of stimulating dialogue on what it means to be a womxn, discussions on the challenges faced by womxn in this male dominated industry as well as the future of the industry in a South African and global context.

Speaking to BloemfonteinCourant, Mazwai says: “I am very excited about this. I think it’s magical that it’s happening just after my graduation and I have a lot to say, a lot to express and a lot to give and share.”

Guests can also expect entertaining performances from Afrika Queen, a poet and arts practitioner. Also lined up are appearances by motivational speaker, Linda Gabriel, as well as Candice Thikeson, who is an art historian as well as a lecturer.

The event will be hosted by Arts Amuse and the UFS Arts and Culture. It will be on 4 May, at Albert Wessels Auditorium at the Bloemfontein campus. The event will run from 17:30-19:30.

*Womxn according to http://definithing.com/womxn/ is ” A spelling of ‘women’ that is a more inclusive, progressive term that not only sheds light on the prejudice, discrimination, and institutional barriers womxn have faced, but to also show that womxn are not the extension of men (as hinted by the biblical story of Adam and Eve) but their own free and separate entities. This term includes trans-women and women of colour in its definition.
