NOTICE: Emergency Shutdown on Bloemfontein water pipeline

The municipality is urging Bloemfontein residents to use water sparingly. This comes after Bloemwater experienced a pipe burst on the Bloemfontein mainline that has resulted in an emergency shutdown of the line.

The pipe burst occurred on the night of 17 July 2017 near the N6 and Oliver Tambo Road (formerly Church Street) crossing, and is being attended to as a matter of urgency. Technicians are also repairing a leak on the 1200 mainline near Mangaung Prison.

Mangaung spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, says that engineers are currently on site repairing the pipe burst on the 700 mm Glass Reinforced Pipeline and 1200 Concrete Pipeline mainline respectively.

“Bloemwater is doing its best to address these repairs with minimal interruptions and as speedily as possible. All residents in Bloemfontein are hereby requested to use water sparingly to avoid interruptions in the supply,” he added.

Water tankers will be provided where required.
