North West Premier reports death threats to police


SABRINA DEAN – North West Premier Thandi Modise has asked police to investigate alleged death threats against her.
Her spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele told Bloemfontein Courant this morning the Premier has been aware of the threats for some time now and has also met with police over the matter.
"The Premier has confirmed that she has been aware of the alleged threat for a while now and has taken the step to report the matter to police," he said.
He did not want to elaborate further on the matter as he says it is a sensitive issue. He said they are in communication with police and are certain police are investigtion. "It is up to the police to know which of their units are investigating this matter," he said, adding that he believes crime intelligence is one of the units involved in investigations. 
He says the Povincial Government has not initiated extra security for Modise as this will be assessed by the police, who will then beef up security if necessary.
Kgwele says the Premier is also appealing to the community to remain calm as she is hopeful police will get to the bottom of the alleged threats.
