The Department of Education in the Free State has confirmed that no learners were injured this morning, when an alleged gang tried to invade a secondary school in Heidedal, Bloemfontein.
Spokesperson Howard Ndaba says exams were however disrupted at Petunia Secondary School when a group of young people who call themselves the Romans, armed with pangas and other objects wanted to enter the school premises.
According to Ndaba parents of various schools heard about the incident and out in panic rushed to a number of other schools in Mangaung to take their children home out of fear for gang attacks.
Relevant stakeholders, including the department, school governing bodies, community leaders and representatives from the mayor's office have met at Petunia to discuss the situation.
