No arrests have been made yet after the mysterious death of a Mangaung Metro Municipality employee, Seipati Lechoano, whose body was found in the boot of her car late last year at her place of work with her hands and feet tied.
Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, told Bloemfontein Courant that police are still on a manhunt for the perpetrators but they have not yet made a breakthrough to determine who might be responsible for Lechoano’s death.
Mbambo says they also haven’t had any success in determining the cause of death following the inconclusive post-mortem that was conducted on the deceased body that was found in a decomposing state.
Lechoano, who worked at the anti-fraud sub-division of MMM, went missing on 19 December 2018. Her body was found in the boot of her car in the basement parking of the Bram Fischer building which houses Mangaung Municipality six days after she went missing.
Mbambo issued a statement after the body was found saying the police will be investigating a case of kidnapping and murder. But the news of Lechoano’s death led to speculations with social media users suggesting that her murder is work related. Her death received much attention on Twitter with prominent politicians like the United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader expressing his condolences and shock at the murder.
Another user, Kishore Doodnath, said that it was obviously because the deceased was doing her job, and this was problematic for some.
