No arrests after hairdresser’s murder
Police in the Free State have made no arrests yet in connection with the murder of a hairdresser from Riebeeckstad in Welkom yesterday.
The body of the 53-year-old André Gebhardt was discovered yesterday morning on the floor inside his home from where he also managed his own hairdressing salon. Police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says all leads are being followed up after Gebhardt’s father discovered his body at around 07:30.

Gebhardt’s father went to his son’s house after he could not reach his son via cell phone. hakeng says the concerned father went to his son’s house and borrowed a step ladder from a neighbour to climb over the locked entrance gate to his property. According to Thakeng the front door and security gate were open.

There was a rope, around his neck and his hands were tied up with shoe laces in front of his body. The house was ram sacked. Thakeng says the safe was broken open and an undisclosed amount of money and the deceased’s cell phone are missing.
