The Bloemfontein professional, Wilco Nienaber, is relishing the opportunity to play in South Africa again.
The 20-year-old has been playing in Europe for the last few months and in the process earned a couple of top 10 finishes.
The former South African Amateur champion will be teeing it up this week at the Randpark Golf Club in the Joburg Open in what is the first of three European Tour events in South Africa.
Nienaber says he is most looking forward to playing in the SA Open in a few weeks’ time.
“I have not played much in South African, unfortunately.
“It’s really nice to have the next three events on the European Tour in South Africa, so I am really looking forward to it.
“Sun City is a course where I have not played before, so the SA Open at the Gary Player Country Club is going to be amazing and I am looking forward to it.”
Nienaber added that he is happy with his game at the moment, but it will be important to know the course in Johannesburg well before he tees off in the Joburg Open.
“My game is feeling solid. I have done all the work that I felt I needed to do. It’s a morning tee-off time, and there are a few things that I can work on.
“It will be really important to get the right lines off the tee shot. There are a couple of tough holes at the course and I need to take advantage of the tee shots.
“It’s just to make just that the line I am taking is right and to know the pace of the greens will be important. That’s really where you do the scoring.”
