Nicro Safety Ambassadors will be having a fun run on Thursday 27 April 2017 in celebration of Freedom Day.
Safety Ambassador co-ordinator, Lehlohonolo Motshabi, says: “Our aim with the fun run is to claim back the streets in and around the schools by involving learners, parents and teachers to engage in a healthy and safe activity, spreading the message that drugs and crime are not needed to have fun.”
Safety Ambassadors are high school learners from Moemedi Secondary School and Hodisa Technical School in the Nicro hosts fun run Rocklands area, who have decided to join the fight against crime in their community.
Motshabi says that as Nicro, they are aware of the important role parents play in the lives of their children – spending time with their children strengthens the parent-child relationship and builds resilience in a child. A resilient child is less vulnerable to negative influences and bullying, which could lead to gangsterism.
“Having a fun run will create an opportunity for parents and children to spend time with each other and strengthen their relationships,” he adds.
The 5-km fun run will start at 07:00 at Hodisa Technical School and the finishing point is at 09:00 at Kopanong Secondary School. Parents and children are welcome to join the run. Contact Lehlohono Motshabi at 051-435-5193 or email lehlohonolo@nicro.co.za. – Seithati Semenokane
