Taxis from South Africa and Lesotho will benefit from the new Setsoto Transport Centre.
The municipality spokesperson Sanki Kobeli says the new taxi rank that opened on Thursday in Ficksburg is a victory. He says the more than R12 million facility will centralise taxi activities. Kobeli says the new taxi rank is to ensure that commuters are safe and also a boost for local economic development.
He says previously taxis operated in and around town. “This is to also avoid incidents where the community ends up using private vehicles as taxis and the new taxi rank will help address these kinds of issues. There will be taxis to other destinations that were originally not provided.
The Free State Department of Police, Roads and Transport says the new rank is constructed in three phases and is part of the Transport Month programme.
