The Metsimaholo Local Municipality aims to bring its services closer to the people.
Harry Gwala location residents in Sasolburg will now be able to pay for their municipal rates and taxes at the newly Multi-Purpose Centre. According to the municipality spokesperson Gino Alberts, the R26 million facilities opened officially by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Susan Shabangu on Friday.
Alberts says sports fanatics should also look forward to having closer suitable sports facilities.
“The centre will offer a multi-purpose of training sessions, workshops, tournaments and also have a tennis, basketball and netball tennis courts. There is a kiosk for serving and selling refreshments. By the end of February 2014, there will also be soccer fields. We want our community to take ownership of the centre and protect it,” he says.
Alberts says they urge residents not to vandalise the newly built facility next time they protest. The centre will also feature a satellite fire station, police contact centre and South African Social Security Agency offices (SASSA).
Alberts says 107 jobs were created during construction that emerged from February 2012 till August 2013.
