As the new Mangaung Metro Council is due to have its first official sitting today, the status of the municipality’s finances and administration might be on the agenda.
This includes the situation around the number of municipal officials currently on suspension.
According to Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Des van Rooyen a total of four officials are currently on suspension.

The officials – two building inspectors, a swimming pool superintendent and a clerk in the housing department – are all suspended on charges of fraud and or theft.
Van Rooyen said in an answer on a written question in parliament that some of the officials have been suspended for up to three months with pay.
The municipality forked out more than R156 000 on salaries of the officials since they were suspended.
