The Northern Cape ANC is intending to suspend a municipality manager who allegedly has a Grade 8.
This is according to the provincial MEC of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHTA), Alvin Botes. He says on Thursday the NamaKhoi Municipality will hold a special council meeting in Springbok. Botes was briefing the media this morning in Kimberley.
He says the provincial High Court ruled that eight ANC councilors will not be suspended after the DA and COPE applied for their suspension. "The opposition parties demanded that the eight councillors be suspended after allegedly missing several meetings," says Botes.
“The high court says what the DA and COPE are doing is to undermine the democracy. I really hope that they accept the judiciary judgement on the matter. That they will just give over power in good spirit, my objective is to make sure that we qualified and competent people,” he says.
Botes says the ANC won by-elections last month in Springbok. He says they have laid formal criminal charges with the Hawks for the 56 million rand of wasteful and unauthorized expenditure at the NamaKhoi Municipality. Botes says the Public Protector is also investigating his complaint regarding the municipality’s financial situation.
