As Christmas decorations fill the city’s streets, Mangaung’s popular tourist attraction, Naval Hill, is also taking part in the festivities. Every evening residents and tourist alike flock to the famous attraction to not only visit the statue of Nelson Mandela, but also to take in the beautiful sight of Christmas light decorations.
Senati Letsema travelled all the way from neighbouring country, Lesotho, to enjoy the sights. “This is my first time on Naval Hill and I think the lights are very beautiful. People should definitely come here with their families to experience it,” she said.
Resident Lorraine de Jongh, stopped by the day before but couldn’t view the lights as the entrance was closed. “This is fantastic, it’s the first time that I’ve seen them decorate Naval Hill. It is a great experience to be able to view the city from this level,” she said excitedly.
Refiloe Motsepe from Fauna in Bloemfontein visits Naval Hill regularly. “The lights are actually very nice, you get to experience and see the entire city from a heightened level. They actually have very nice arrangements for Christmas. If you bring your family and kids they will really enjoy it. You can take pictures. It’s a very nice festive area to just chill. The beauty of Bloemfontein is enhanced by the lights, especially when viewed from Naval Hill,” Motsepe said.
More residents are expected to enjoy the festive lights, as well as take their visiting relatives to view the city from a brighter perspective.
