SABRINA DEAN – Teachers’ organization Naptosa has congratulated the Free State for its 87.4 percent matric pass rate, making it the top province in the country.
Naptosa President Basil Manuel says it has been a long time coming. “We are thrilled for the Free State, they’ve shown over the last three years that things are stabilising and improving greatly.
“Congratulations to all our teachers, all other officials who have also done a fantastic job and also all our pupils and parents,” he says.
Manuel also welcomed the increase in degree passes, saying this indicates an improvement of the quality of the system. “It indicates that the system is maturing and certainly that the currency of the matric certificate is of better value.
“It means children can access better jobs and children can access better degrees, so we are thrilled that this is being shown within the system,” he says.
