Temporary lane closures and occasional stop/go control will soon be carried out on Sections 13 and 14 of the National Route 1 (N1) in the Xhariep District.
This comes after the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (Sanral) announced the awarding of contracts for the works on the 32 km stretch of road, which entails repairs and resurfacing.
According to a statement by Sanral, the project is divided into two packages. Package 1 starts at section 13, from Springfontein South to Section 14 at Springfontein North. Package 2 begins at section 14, from Springfontein North to Trompsburg.
“Temporary lane closures and occasional stop/go control will be carried out. Speed reduction will also be imposed and motorists are advised to take note of the construction activities and to be observant of the advance warning signs and restrictions, when travelling past the construction zones,” said Rajesh Dookie, Sanral’s Eastern Region Project Manager.
The construction phase of the project will commence in the last quarter of 2021. The two contracts will run concurrently over a 12-month period. Upon completion of construction work, Sanral will officially reopen the entire road section for full use.
“Actophambili Roads (Pty) Ltd was the chosen contractor for package 1, while Actophambili Roads (Pty) Ltd and Nomano Trading CC JV were awarded package 2. The Consulting Engineers are Phatwe Consulting Engineers CC,” concluded Dookie.
